A World-Renowned Institution
The Center is the combined home for five historical institutions: the American Jewish Historical Society, the American Sephardi Federation, the Yeshiva University Museum, the Leo Baeck Institute and the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research. All except the Yeshiva University Museum have galleries at the Center with rotating exhibitions. The Center’s own permanent installations of Judaic art and artifacts are internationally recognized as some of the most important collections in the world.
Opened in 2000, the Center for Jewish History features modern, light-filled gallery space with thoughtful design details such as floors inlaid with symbols. A large glass hanging which is mounted in the building’s two-story center is meant to resemble a page of Talmud.
The Center also offers many programs that explore Jewish culture and history.
