MoMA PS1

If you love contemporary art- the more cutting-edge the better- then MoMA PS1 is a must-see destination. This non-profit art institution is dedicated to displaying the most ground-breaking, intriguing experimental art in the world. There are over 50 exhibitions organized each year including the most innovative installations from across the U.S. and the world. MoMA also features a critically acclaimed music series, educational programs and many performance events.

An Elementary School Building Turned Contemporary Art Museum

MoMA PS1was founded in 1976 and became affiliated with the Museum of Modern Art in January 2000. It is well known for its annual Young Architects Program, a competition which invites emerging architects to come up with design ideas for MoMA PS1's courtyard. MoMa is housed within a 19th century elementary school, with the beautifully restored classrooms serving as gallery spaces. While the museum does showcase long-term installations it does not have a permanent collection. It is focused on constantly exhibiting new and groundbreaking works.
