The Store
FAO Schwarz has three levels of store space, each divided into specialty areas, making shopping an easy and thoroughly enjoyable experience. The store’s first floor is home to enormous stuffed animals where children can find their favorite cuddly friends in a variety of characters and sizes. A visit to the American Kennel Club shop is also a must, where visitors can purchase purebred dogs produced by the toy maker company, Steiff. The first floor also contains an ice-cream parlor where tired visitors can sit down to relax over a delicious house special while their children wander around the store.
The lower level of FAO Schwarz is a treat for parents and their little children who can shop in a safe and exclusive environment. The aisles are wide to accommodate baby carriages and is considered especially child friendly and convenient. Nursing mothers will have no problem finding a quiet space to feed their young ones. The store offers visitors the option of buying top brand products from the houses of ‘Alex’, ‘Neurosmith’, ‘Silver Cross’ and Melissa and Doug’, among others, for age groups ranging from birth until preschool.
FAO Schwarz’s book section is also located on the lower level and is home to one of the best selections of children’s book in the city. Here, visitors can find all sorts of books – from yesteryear classics to popular, contemporary children’s works. Take some time to visit this section for pure literary pleasure.
Many consider the store’s second floor to be the most exciting and it is definitely where most children head first when visiting FAO Schwarz. This is where all the action lies and the floor is practically buzzing with music, dancers, toy creating and interesting toy collections.
An absolute must on the second floor is a visit to the popular Motion Simulator Ride, which combines excellent graphics, sound and technology to bring visitors an incredible virtual experience.
The Madame Alexander Doll Factory is a place that little girls only dream of, where they can fashion and create their own dolls. Also on this floor, visitors can find a full and complete range of collectible and play dolls, including Barbie dolls, Lee Middleton and Jason Wu. Little boys can also find plenty to keep them enthralled, from the race sets, train sets and construction departments, to the very popular Hot Wheels car factory where they can create their own vehicles.
Of course, the Lego section is always a firm favorite, as well as the Antique Toys Room where collectors are on hand to offer their personal perspectives on their wonderful, old toys from yesteryear.
