Saks Fifth Avenue in New York was the creation of Horace Saks and Bernhard Gimbel who operated separate retail shops on 34th St. in the early 1900's. They had a vision - to create "a unique specialty store that would become synonymous with fashionable, gracious living." With the shared finances of the two families they bought the property where the current flagship store stands. Offering a unique experience in terms of shopping in New York City; Saks Fifth Avenue opened in 1924 and offered fine quality women's and men's fashion along with spectacular customer service.
