Coney Island 2019 Flicks on the Beach Line-up

CONEY ISLAND, July 2, 2019 – The much-anticipated Flicks on the Beach series is returning to Coney Island for
its seventh season starting July 22nd. Programmed by the Alliance for Coney Island, the Monday night series offers
Coney Island visitors the opportunity to see some of their favorite movies for free during the summer months.

The series, set to begin on Monday, July 22nd at sundown will include 2018 Pixar Animation hit the Incredibles 2 and
the 2019 mega-blockbuster, Avengers: End Game. With three screenings this summer, we encourage people to
arrive early to ensure a good seat.

The 2019 Flicks on the Beach line-up is:

● July 22nd – The Incredibles 2
● August 5th – A Star is Born
● August 26th – Avengers: End Game

Screenings will be on the beach at West 12th Street.

2019 New Year’s Day Polar Bear Plunge at Coney Island

CONEY ISLAND, November 12th, 2018 – It’s no secret that Coney Island has been the birthplace for fun since the turn of the century. Celebrating its 115th year, the originators of the time honored tradition of the Polar Bear Plunge are proud to announce a partnership with local non-profit organizations to help their neighborhood: Coney Island.

The Plunge, taking place on January 1st, 2019  is a free event, however individuals and teams must register to participate and are encouraged to fundraise for the cause. Walk-up registrants are welcome and are encouraged to arrive early, as on-site registration will open at 10 a.m., and the first wave of plungers start at 1PM sharp.

Last year, despite freezing temperatures, the plunge raised over $40,000. For 2019, the goal is to raise $80,000 which will all go toward local Coney Island nonprofits including the Alliance for Coney Island, New York Aquarium, Coney Island USA, Coney Island History Project as well as other arts and community organizations.  Supporters of Coney Island can show their commitment by fundraising to help ensure the growth and livelihood of this iconic destination and neighborhood.  Funds help support free events such as Friday Night Fireworks, arts programs, environmental and educational programming, and continue to improve quality of life issues and support workforce development programs for the Coney Island neighborhood which is home to over 50,000 residents.

The Coney Island Polar Bear Club

The Coney Island Polar Bear Club is the oldest winter bathing organization in the United States. We swim in the Atlantic Ocean at Coney Island every Sunday from November through April. Since 1903, we have been hosting a public New Year’s Day Plunge for all brave souls to welcome the New Year. While the event is free, we do encourage plungers to make a donation to our charity sponsors. In the past decade, the Club has raised over $500,000 to support charities. This year we are supporting the NY Aquarium, the Alliance for Coney Island and local non-profit community organizations in the Coney Island Community.

9th Annual Coney Island Children’s Halloween Parade

CONEY ISLAND, October 26th, 2018 – The Alliance for Coney Island, in partnership with Councilman Treyger, State Senator Savino, and parade sponsors Paul’s Daughter, Applebee’s Grill & Bar, Liberty Coke and CBS’s new prime-time show “God Friended Me” present the 9th Annual Coney Island Children’s Halloween Parade on Tuesday, October 30th 2018.

This annual event brings a day of “spooktacular” family fun and entertainment for children to celebrate Halloween and participate in a costume contest showing off their creativity. Welcoming children 14 years of age and younger, they can enjoy a wide variety of activities including face painting, bounce houses, caricature art, magic shows and of course, the official Coney Island Halloween Costume Contest. Participants will he judged in the following categories for their chance to win great prizes: Best Group Costume, Most Creative Costume, Funniest Costume, Best Handmade Costume and lastly, Best Overall Costume. Beginning at 4pm, participants can register at the MCU Park located at 1904 Surf Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11224. Media outlets are not only welcomed to revel, but are also encouraged to interview, photograph and video the day’s activities.
