The Javits Center in New York City

The Javits Center is the market place and stage of the world that is located on 11th Avenue in New York City between 34th and 39th St, the Westside of Manhattan. The convention center obtained its name after former United States Senator Jacob Javits. It is operational today being maintained and foreseen by the New York City Convention Center Corporation.

This is one of the largest convention centers in the world opening in 1986 and goes to no surprise for the top exhibits and events of the world. Many events take place year round with up to 85,000 visitors at one time, more than 3 million annually.

Architectural Design and History
Well-known architect, James Ingo Freed, I.M Pei and Partners was the designer of the Javits Convention Center. It took 6 years for completion of the space themed structure to be presented to New York residents. Total exhibit space is well over 650,000 square feet, around 22 acres with a steel and glass structure. It is considered a modern architect assembly with five blocks of rectangular form.

There are 100 meeting rooms with the biggest one ranging with more than 150,000 sq. ft. of open space. The challenge was simple when designed with the main outcome being a warehouse shaped design with multiple floors of public space.

The Javits Convention Center was actually designed to interchange with the New York Coliseum and to become the one and only biggest convention centers in New York City. It was given the renowned name of the Crystal Palace due to the glass lobby that stands at 150 feet.

The Javits Center went through a renovation to fulfill the needs of the trade show industry in 2009. The expansion phase only took a year to complete giving a new hall known as the Javits Center North and renovations to the main building. There were a total of 9 different renovation phases totaling more than $450 Million dollars.

Javits is home to many national events that take place year round. Some of the popular events tourists travel from all parts of the world to attend includes The New York International Auto Show, New York Green Festival, International Beauty Show and many others. There is a full schedule of trade shows, events and exhibits on the website.

There is On-Site dining available with many different varieties of cuisine. There are 22 food outlets total throughout the center with level 1, level 3, Outside the Café, North Concourse, Mezzanine Bar and Taxi North as the different eating destinations. All food outlets are accommodated by Centerplate Inc. Fed Ex, Concierge Service, Hudson News, Coat Check and Bank Atm’s are throughout the center as well.

There is no parking at the center, but many parking areas all around with 24 hour service. Transportation to the center includes taxi and subway.
