HistoryManhattan Mall began as Gimbel’s Department Store in 1910 and remained so until 1986. After Gimbel’s folded, the mall became known as A&S Plaza but was renamed Manhattan Mall in 1995. In 2001, Stern’s company opened its flagship store in the mall and in early 2007 J.C. Penny announced that it would also be opening a huge 150,000 square foot store in Manhattan Mall.
